The 2C4CKD project successfully held a new international webinar dedicated to Conservative Kidney Care, bringing together healthcare professionals, patients, and individuals interested in gaining a deeper understanding of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and patient-centred treatment alternatives.
The main objective of the webinar was to provide a clear and up-to-date overview of chronic kidney disease, its different stages, and the available treatment options, with a particular focus on Conservative Kidney Care as an active treatment option for people with kidney failure who choose not to pursue dialysis or transplantation. This treatment approach focuses on symptom management, preserving remaining kidney function, treatment through medication and diet, and providing comprehensive medical, psychological, and social support to help patients achieve the best possible quality of life.
The session began with the presentation «Chronic Kidney Disease: causes, stages and ways to slow its progression», delivered by nephrologist Konstaninos Psounis, who provided a comprehensive review of the causes of chronic kidney disease, its progression through the different stages, and the strategies available to slow its development. During his presentation, he highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, regular clinical follow-up, and preventive measures to preserve kidney function for as long as possible.
The second presentation, «What we call conservative care for kidney failure?», was delivered by nephrologist Ioannis Griveas, who explored the concept of Conservative Kidney Care and its role in the comprehensive management of people with advanced kidney disease. His presentation emphasized that this care model is an active treatment option based on personalised care, shared decision-making, and respect for each patient’s preferences and life goals.
Throughout the webinar, both presentations generated significant interest among participants thanks to the scientific rigor of the content, the clarity of the speakers’ explanations, and the practical approach used to address the different aspects of chronic kidney disease and Conservative Kidney Care. The event created an excellent opportunity for learning and reflection on the importance of providing accessible, high-quality information so that patients can actively and confidently participate in decisions regarding their treatment.
Through initiatives such as this webinar, the 2C4CKD project continues to advance its commitment to raising awareness of Conservative Kidney Care, promoting the exchange of best practices among healthcare professionals, and improving access to person-centred care for people living with chronic kidney disease.
