Type of organisation Small and medium sized enterprise

SARONIC NEPHROLOGICAL CENTER Ltd is a pioneering movement funded by a private institution in the area of clinical nephrology with the objective to offer anthropocentric therapeutic services to outpatients with symptoms of renal insufficiency or to patients who have end-stage renal dysfunction (ESRD) and are required to have dialysis sessions. It started operating in November of 2009, with the potential to become a benchmark for Greek and foreign visitors, who wish to indulge in relaxing moments and escape from everyday life and routines, on Aegina island, or the surrounding areas of the Saronic Gulf, all year round, offering high-quality dialysis sessions, similar to those of their home dialysis centers.

At this moment, the dialysis unit provides dialysis services to 15 permanent citizens/patients of Aegina, where 4 of them are registered on the national (Greek) waiting list for a kidney transplant.

Our dialysis unit’s staff is oriented at providing nursing and medical care to dialysis patients and patients with Chronic Kidney Disease. However, it also provides advisory services to patients with CKD and their caregivers who are unfamiliar with a kidney patient’s permanent and demanding care.

The unit’s nephrologists monitor 8 kidney patients at stages 3/4 using the method of conservative care. Within 16 years of the unit’s operation, 34 elderly patients with CKD were provided with this kind of care, and we managed to delay their CKD‘s progression to stage 5 (it is the final stage of CKD-named ESRD- and the patient needs dialysis or a kidney transplant to remain alive).

Moreover, our nephrologists participate actively with open speeches and presentations to the local community in Aegina about managing and preventing CKD and offer continuous social support and sustainable training with long-term effects to patient groups.

With expertise in organizing patient-centered events and delivering educational programs, ILOS strives to enhance the well-being and quality of life of kidney patients.

ILOS association actively engages in raising awareness, educating, and advocating for the rights and well-being of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Our expertise lies in organizing patient-centered educational events and providing psychosocial consulting. While Slovenian doctors recognize Conservative Care (CC) as a treatment option, it remains insufficiently known and presented to patients.
